Through our conversations, and the experience we both had working as financial advisors, we arrived at four characteristics in an advisory relationship that were most important to us. These four pieces, in our opinion, would give us the best chance of achieving our long-term vision, and securing a future for our families.
We wanted a “map” that helped guide us to our future. We wanted more than a product solution for today. Rather, we wanted an ongoing process of uncovering areas of opportunity, or potential blind spots in our financial planning. We wanted every aspect to be under careful watch regarding goal planning, investment strategies, insurance protection, estate and tax planning, and business planning.
We wanted a team of advisors surrounding our family; a group of highly credentialed professionals that worked together to make sure our families were on the right path to our future goals. We wanted this team to work in cohesion with any other advisors we might engage, like our CPA or our estate planning attorney. One plan, and one team.
We wanted a relationship where we knew our family’s needs and desires were placed well ahead of the advisor’s. We did not want to be “sold a product”. We wanted to know that a team who cared about our future was readily available to answer our questions and concerns, providing thoughtful solutions, even if they fell outside the scope of financial instruments.
We wanted a highly rated, well respected, and financially sound institution standing behind the team we chose. An institution that has weathered many years of financial uncertainty, has proven its ability to do the right thing, and would be a great resource for knowledge to the team we chose. We wanted this institution to be independent, objective, and have the strength to give our team “buying power” in the marketplace.
In the end, we could not find that team within our community that is so well suited and that exhibited all those important characteristics. And so, we built that team, and we serve over a hundred other families around the US who wanted what the same for themselves.
We hope the four characteristics supporting our financial vision will help you consider what is most important to your family’s financial future. We look forward to answering your questions on this journey to and your partner in planning.
